Andrea Camilleri is the Italian writer who gave us the best inspiration ever, and 2025 marks the centenary of his birth.
The Andrea Camilleri Fund has organized first edition of a prize dedicated to him, curated by writer Arianna Mortelliti, his granddaughter; this initiative aims to highlight new unpublished works: short stories, radio dramas, poems and children’s fables – unfortunately Italian-only writing is accepted.
It is divided into two categories: “Chiù picca di sissanta” for those under 60 and “Chiù assà di sissanta” for those over 60, these are two Sicilian expressions – Sicily is the location where Camilleri was born and lived; the winners will be published in two anthologies by Gemma Edizioni publishing house.
Will we participate? Yes! We gladly take the opportunity to pay tribute to the person who encouraged us to write.
With what short story? Who knows. The deadline is January 6, 2025, and we will take the time to write one suitable for the contest topic, which is “beyond reason.” Love, fear, horror? The challenge is open and we are ready!
We do not exclude the possibility of leaving our fantasy “positive world” in peace and, for the occasion, telling a real-world HIV story born in the dramatic years of AIDS emergency and finally coming true in the 2020s…
