As we love to leave our readers a little hanging, we say that we have become “a case study” like True Crime channels we follow; in reality, however, WordPress Accessibility Day is one of the most serious and important #events our site is involved in, and we’re too excited about it.
WordPress Accessibility Day
- When: October 10, 2024, 08:00 am Italian time.
- Who: Elena “Elettrona” Brescacin, aka @talksina – and Gloria Liuni.
- Where: On Line.
First event was in 2020, On Line, thanks to the international “WordPress Accessibility” community; its goal is to spread the word about accessibility and inclusive design, to WordPress developers and creators in any personal or professional setting and level.
Addressed mostly to a technically skilled public, WordPress Accessibility Day conference allows several speakers to discuss various simple and complex topics during a 24 hours time.
Obviously, if you want to ask live questions, you have to be online while a specific speaker is presenting. But on the site there are references for each person so you can contact them later when single videos are posted on event’s YouTube channel.
How are PlusBrothers involved?
Ours is not only a personal HIV-related blog with true and fictional stories, but it shows in a tangible way how essential is the effort of volunteers and professionals involved in WordPress every day both in technical and human context.
We would like to witness how “diversity equity inclusion” are not empty words because a person-centered world can be created only when each of us shares their knowledge, no matter if large or limited.
Speaking about technical skills however, one of us is experienced and the other isn’t, so it’s not difficult to guess who is speaking in English on live broadcast in front of half the world.
Where, when, what, who?

- Who: Elena “Elettrona” Brescacin, Gloria Liuni

Description
How can a blind blogger or web developer customize their site’s interface, with less help as possible? And how can a sighted person be helpful without being a full-time assistant? When could AI replace eyes, and where human expertise remains fundamental?
Elena and Gloria can witness how in the Gutenberg era designing a site without sight is not too much challenging any more, becoming even funny like playing with bricks: thanks to the editor’s structure, they have started collaborating and learning one from the other, almost speaking the same language.
With its large amount of keyboard shortcuts WordPress’s block and site editor makes it easy to perform most operations and, overall, blocks logical structure is very similar to a screen reader’s approach to a web user interface: elements are positioned sequentially.
No motivational and resilience based quotes can help people with disabilities to advocate for social causes, if then technology creates barriers; Gutenberg seems to currently be the only page builder providing accessibility both in frontend and backend, and this talk’s intention is to encourage non-visual creators to take a step forwards, and developers to consider accessibility more and more in their plugins and themes interfaces.
To join a live questions and answers session you must register, then be online on time at 8 a.m. on Oct. 10, otherwise videos will be posted later on the event channels. Alternatively, you can always bother Elettrona’s social networks but do it moderately.
